Overview
Phoenix House New England, founded in Rhode Island in 1967, is one of the region’s premier nonprofit substance abuse treatment agencies, annually serving nearly 4,000 individuals at more than 20 programs and facilities throughout New England. Administered through our offices located in Providence, the majority of our programs are accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, a nationally recognized standard of excellence.
In Rhode Island, our programs provide a broad spectrum of services to adults, including: medically monitored withdrawal, residential and outpatient treatment, education and prevention services.
With 50 years of experience, Phoenix House helps thousands of men, women, and teens find the road to recovery each year. Our treatment philosophy is based on the understanding that addiction is a chronic disease not a moral failing. Individuals suffering from substance use disorders deserve and require evidence-based treatment in settings that offer privacy and dignity. Like other chronic diseases, such as diabetes, there are no quick fixes or easy cures for addiction. Good long-term outcomes result from providing individuals with the tools and support they need to achieve and maintain recovery.
Since no two people are the same, we believe no two treatment plans should be identical. We tailor care to meet individual needs, taking into account biological, social, and psychological factors. Our approach is integrated. Rather than focusing solely on an individual’s use of drugs or alcohol, we treat the whole person.
Each client receives care from a multidisciplinary team, which may include:
- Psychiatrists and psychologists
- Medical professionals
- Social workers
- Family therapists
- Clinical case managers
- Certified alcoholism and substance abuse counselors
- Continuing care counselors
- Wellness specialists
- Vocational/educational specialists
Our clinicians deliver treatment in a variety of settings. Residential care may be the best course for some, while outpatient care may be advised for others. We utilize a range of evidence-based methods, from cognitive behavioral therapy to medication-assisted treatments like buprenorphine. Our goal is to do whatever it takes to give you or your loved one the best chance for lasting recovery.
We offer specialized programming for adults, teens, women including mothers with young children, members of the military community, and those with co-occurring mental health problems. In addition, our clients may engage in expressive arts, meditation, fitness, and other activities aimed at developing a healthy, sober lifestyle.
Addiction can be a tremendous strain on the entire family—and we’re committed to easing that burden by making treatment both accessible and affordable. We proudly serve people from all walks of life.
Whether you need help on the West Coast or East Coast, whether this is your first time in treatment or you’ve traveled this road before, whether you need intensive or short-term care, Phoenix House is prepared to meet you where you are.
